Caring for Your Wool Blanket – A Guide to Long-Lasting Comfort

Minimal Washing – More Freshness

Unlike synthetic materials, wool is self-cleaning and does not require frequent washing. In fact over-washing can strip the natural lanolin, reducing its longevity.

Opt for gentle care...

Air It Out: Give your blanket a good shake and air it outside on a dry day. Fresh air helps remove odours and refresh the fibres.

Brush Off Debris: Use a soft-bristle brush or lint roller to remove crumbs, dust and pet hair.

Spot Clean Stains: Wool’s natural water-repellent properties prevent most spills from soaking in. Quickly blot (don’t rub!) stains with a clean cloth and cold water. For tougher spots, use a gentle wool detergent.

Washing Wool Blankets...

If your blanket needs a deeper clean, always check the care label instructions first.

Hand Wash (Recommended): Use lukewarm water (30°C max) with a gentle wool detergent. Gently swish, never wring or scrub.

Machine Wash (Only If Allowed): Select a cold wool cycle and use a mild wool detergent. Avoid spinning and fast agitation.

Always Dry Flat: Don’t wring or twist. Use a clean towel underneath and reshape while damp. Avoid direct sunlight or high heat. Never tumble dry.

Storing Blankets...

To keep your wool blanket looking and feeling its best:

Maintain Softness: Use a soft clothes brush or wool comb gently over the surface to remove bobbles (known as pilling) and maintain finish.

Store: In a breathable bag or cotton storage case to reduce dust and exposure to sunlight and fading.

Natural moth repellents: Such as lavender sachets or cedarwood balls will protect against moth damage.
